Friday, January 26, 1900 page 4About eight o'clock last Tuesday morning the Angel of Death came to release A.O. Thompson from a long and painful struggle that he had carried on with a brave and heroic spirit.
Andrew O. Thompson was born in Polk county, Iowa, the son of Ole and Bertha (Braland) Thompson, January 21, 1862. About the year 1886 he came to this county and entered the employ of Salmon & Darrow as a clerk in their drug store in Columbus Junction. In 1888 he engaged in business for himself. In 1891 he met with a serious loss in the burning of his store. In March following he went to Texas, locating in Dennison, where he again engaged in business. In March 1893 he returned to Iowa locating in Wapello since which time he has devoted himself assiduously to his business and the building up a great trade.
Mr. Thompson was married to Miss Jessie Colton, daughter of Ed Colton, in April 1888. To them were born three children, Vail E., Joyce and Fannie, all of whom survive him. The funeral service was conducted at the late home yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock by Rev. T.S. Pool, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which deceased was a prominent member. The remains were laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery.
