David C. Blackman, 69, of the 3100 block of 34th Place died of complications from a heart ailment Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Chariton Cemetery in Chariton. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Mr. Blackman was born in Des Moines and had lived in Chariton as a youth. He had lived in Des Moines the past 40 years and was a teacher with Park Avenue Elementary School before retiring. He was a member of First Federated Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; a son, David, and a daughter, Melinda Wellen, both of Urbandale; and a grandchild.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
