John Milton Taber, 60, passed away Sunday July 10, 2005 from a stroke in Curitiba, state of Parana, Brazil. Services were held on Monday, July 11 in Curitiba. A memorial service is being planned for a future date in Des Moines. The family may be contacted at 515-280-1615 for additional information.

John was born on October 18, 1944 in Des Moines to Milton M. (Bud) Taber and Frances Roberts Taber. He graduated with honors from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, the University of Iowa; and held advanced degrees from the University of Florida (Gainesville), and the Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

He served his country honorably through the Peace Corps in the state of Goias in Brazil and as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam. He married Josil Mendes in Brazil on March 10, 1979 and had a career in managing family-owned real estate and beachfront properties in Curitiba and Paranagua. He had extensive knowledge of history, politics, religion, and science. He was highly respected among his peers in academic pursuits and shared his intellect unselfishly with many as a teacher.

John is survived by his wife, Josil; his son, Jon William of Des Moines; sister, Carol Taber Mixdorf of Black Creek, WI; and brother, Bill of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Luis Felipe.
