Ivan E. Howard, 83, of Carlisle, passed away September27, 2008 at Indianola Good Samaritan Center in Indianola.
He was born in Adelphi, IA, and went to East High School. He worked at Schreiber Foods and represented the Clearfield cheese Company. He was also a member of the Rainbow Division of the U.S. Army in WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star. He and his wife, Pat, were members of New Life Church in Pleasant Hill. For many years he actively served in the Polk County Jail ministry. After retirement, he volunteered many hours to the Gideon Society and loved to pass out bibles.

Ivan is survived by sons, Tim(Kathee)Naperville,IL, Dan(Mary)Highlands Ranch, CO; sister, Frances Wood of Lineville, IA; grandchildren, Eric Howard, Alisa Derr of Illinois and Rob, Ted and Maria Howard of Colorado; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Visitation will be 4 to 8p.m., Wednesday at Peterson Funeral home in Carlisle. Burial will be in Carlisle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gideon Society or the children's ministry at New Life Church of Pleasant Hill.
He was born January 2, 1925 in Adelphi, Iowa and died September 27, 2008 in Indianola, Iowa.
