John George Link, son of Jacob Link and Christine Bippies (Bippus), was born October 13, 1848, in Wurtemberg, Germany. George married Christina Guhring in May 1869 in Germany. Christina, daughter of John Guhring and Katherine Binder (Bieder), was born January 20, 1848 in Wurtemberg, Germany. Her father, a cabinet maker, built a trunk for Christina to use for clothing and other items when the family came to America in 1871. The trunk is still used by the family of their oldest daughter Anna Marie who was born March 3, 1870 in Germany.
George, Christina and Anna came to America in 1871 residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until their son Martin was born March 25, 1872. They moved to Washington Township, Polk County, Iowa where George's brother, Jacob Link and family had preceded him. George bought 250 acres in Polk County, near Loring, in 1887. George and Christina lived there for 38 years. In 1910 they moved to a home they had bought in Maxwell.
In Germany they were confirmed in the Lutheran faith, later joining the Evangelical Church at Loring.
George died August 8, 1928 and Christina died July 23, 1932.
Fourteen children were born to George and Christina Link.
Anna Maria, born in 1870, married John Cairns.
Martin John, born in 1872, married Minnie M. Cairns.
John George (Jr), born 1874, married Altie E. Enfield.
Christina Hellenia (Helena), born 1876, married Thomas J. Morrison.
Wlliam Fredrick, born 1878, married Elizabeth Yoder.
John Jacob, born 1880, died 1937.
Kathryn Ursala (Ursula), born 1882, married Theodore Miller.
Clara Mae, born 1884, married Oliver Hawkins.
Charles Carl, born 1885, married Clara P. Smith.
Viola Susan, born 1887, married Archie Witmer.
Leonard Loyd, born 1889, married Effie Weaver, who died in 1940, then married Agnes Harris in 1946.
Bert Dwight, born 1891, married Mae Beal.
Rosa 'Rosy' Ellen was born in 1893 and died in 1894.
A son died at birth in 1894.
Leonard Link bought part of the family farm and lived there until 1957. Leonard's son Clarence and his wife Mabel Ballard Link own the farm now. Their son Larry and his wife Nancy Samcoe Link bought the farm home.
There are many descendants of John George and Christina Link. The grandchildren living in the Maxwell area are George Cairns, Blanche Morrison, Clarence Link and Marold Witmer. Great grandchildren are Larry Link and Stephen Witmer.
