Services are held Tuesday for Mabel Mackie, 95

Funeral services for Mabel E. Mackie were held Tuesday morning, October 31 at the Smith Loterbour Powers Funeral Home of Laurens.

Rev. Sara Galindo officiated at the services. Connie Dallenbach was organist. The casket bearers were Curtis Roberts and Dean Roberts. Clayton Mackie, Brian Mackie. Scott Walstead and Jay Larson. Interment was in Laurens Cemetery with the Smith Loterbour Powers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mackie passed away Friday, October 27, 2006, at the Rolfe Care Center at the age of 95 years. 9 months and 8 days.

Mabel Elizabeth Kemp Mackie was born on January 19. 1911 to William and Sarah Ferguson Kemp near Laurens. She was educated in area country schools and graduated from Laurens High School in 1928.

On January 27, 1930, she was married to Howard Mackie in Emmetsburg and the couple began farming east of Laurens. They moved into Laurens in 1952. Mable worked as a telephone operator, at a local restaurant and In 1954 was employed as a bookkeeper for M & J.R Hakes. She retired from Hakes in 1976. Mabel was a member of the East Side Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, held several offices, and was a deaconess. She entered the Rolfe Care Center in 2003.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Joy Roberts of Rolfe and Anne Walstead of Laurens; three sons, Roger Mackie of Laurens, Jerry Mackie of Boone, and Gene Mackie of Cedar Falls; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Howard, an infant daughter Lona Lee, her parents, four sisters, and Lillie Hickman. Viola Kemp, Goldie Brodersen, and Mary Smith, and two brothers, Alfred Kemp and Archie Kemp, three infant sisters, two granddaughters, and a great-great-grandson.
