Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Charles Jarvill, 81

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock at the McKee Funeral Home and 2:30 p. m. at the Laurens Methodist church, Wednesday, Jan. 7, for Charles Jarvill, who passed away at his home on Sunday, Jan. 4. The Rev. H. O. Ward was in charge of the services,.

Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Clarence Morgan, Erwin Dubbert, Mrs. Helen Hertz and .Mrs. Hascal Thomas, with Mrs. H. M. Pohlman accompanying at the piano. They sang "Rock of Ages," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden."

Charles Jarvill, son of John and Sarah Ann Jarvill, was born April 13, 1866 at Lincolnshire, England, and departed this life Jan. 4, 1948, at the age of 81 years, nine months and 21 days.

Come to Iowa

On Sept. 1, 1886, at the age of 20 years, he left England and came to the United States, where he settled at Cambridge, Iowa. On Dec. 5, 1890, he was united in marriage to Ella Gardner, who passed away Oct. 14, 1946. To this union two sons were born, Ernest of Laurens, and Fred, who passed away in 1916. Mr. Jarvill had lived in this community for 44 years. He was a member of the Laurens Methodist church, having united on confession of faith on April 14, 1909, under the pastorate of the Rev. J. J. Bushnell. He also served as trustee of the local church for a number of years and was faithful in his attendance until failing health made it impossible for him to attend.

Survivors

He leaves to mourn his departure, one brother, Walter Jarvill of Quincy, 111.; one son, Ernest, of Laurens: four grandchildren, Fred of Ickmulgee, Okla., Loraine of Emmetsburg, Donah Lyn and James of Laurens; and two great grandchildren.

For the past few years Mr. Jarvill has been in declining health, gradually growing weaker.

Pall bearers were Ivan and Claude Clanton, Harvey Baldwin, Frank Joenks, B. A. Layman and Roy Neville.
