C. J. Mather dies; final rites held Monday afternoon

C. J. Mather, 68, a lifelong resident of Laurens, died unexpectedly Friday at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, after several years of poor health.

Funeral services were held Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home, a family service at 1 p.m. and final rites at 3:30 1p.m. with the, Rev. Leland F. Groves pastor of. First Christian Church, officiating. Mrs. Leland F. Grove, accompanied by Mrs. Elmer Ducommun, sang "Under His Wings" and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me."

Pall bearers were C. E. L. See, Milos Warner, Walt Chase, Elmer Convy, Jake Ziegler and Dan Younggreen. Burial was in the Laurens Cemetery, with military rites at the grave by members of tho American Legion and the V.F.W.

Born in Laurens

Claron James Mather, son of James and Louise Mather, was born July 27, 1894, in Laurens. He attended grade school in Laurens and the St. John Military Academy at Delafield, Wis. During World War I he served three years with the 88th Military Police Company. He also served his country during World War II. During his youth he was baptized in the Christian Church. He was a member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ernest (Edith) Jarvill of Laurens, and other relatives.
