Services to be held for Vernon Martin

Vernon F. Martin, 94, a former resident of Laurens, died Friday, April 23, 1999 at his home in Alameda, California after a short illness. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 11 in Chapel of Chimes in Hayward, California.

Mr. Martin was the son of Frank and Geneva Martin. He graduated from the Laurens High School with the class of 1924 and then attended Iowa State College where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Mr. Martin was known for his athletic abilities while in high school and college.

He was married to Viola Smith of Laurens. They became the parents of one daughter, Bonnie. Mr. Martin worked for Hakes Foods for twenty years as an egg inspector. He was married to the former Helen Wray Kludt of Laurens on May 6, 1967. Helen entered into rest in Alameda on March 21. 1997.

Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie, Mrs. Richard Perenon of Alameda, California, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-grandson and a great-great-grandson and a sister, Berlelle Walline.
