A COUNTY PIONEER HAS PASSED ON. Funeral rites for Mrs. Genevieve Beuter Lilly, pioneer resident of Dover Township, were held at nine o'clock Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, 1930 from the St. Columbkille's Catholic church at Varina. The solem requiem high mass was celebrated by the Rev. Edward C. Lilly of Fort Dodge, grandson of the deceased. The Rev. Gabriel Berry of Varina and the Rev. F.M. Hayes of Laurens, acted at deacon and sub deacon respecitively during the ceremony while the Rev. Edward C. Masterson of Boone, a former pastor at the Varina church officiated as master of ceremonies. The Rev. J. D. Healan of Fonda and the Rev. Thomas Parle of Clare assisted at the mass. Five grandsons of Mrs. Lilly were pall bearers. They were Vern Lilly of Rice Lake, Wi, Mark Lilly of Des Moines, Frank Lilly of Chicago and Thomas and Joseph Lilly of Fort Dodge, William Hurley, who lives at the Lilly home, made the sixth pall bearer. Mrs. Lilly was born in Lansing, Ohio, Mary 3, 1838 and was the daughter of Mr.& Mrs. Joseph Beuter. At the age of 10 years she came to Iowa with her parents and located at Solon. She united in marriage with Edward S. Lilly of Cedar Rapids, Oct. 22, 1868. They moved to Pocahontas County and settled in Dover township. Six children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Lilly. Joseph, Anne and Agnes, who lived at home with their mother; Arthur, Rice Lake, Wi; Raymond, Fort Dodge and Thomas. The latter the father of Rev. Edward C. Lilly, was accidently killed in 1905 while employed as engineer on the Illinois Central railway. Besides caring for her own family, Mrs. Lilly took two children, Gussie and Leonard Runyon, Solon, Ia, orphans of her sister, into her home in 1890. Mrs. Lilly was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 1, 1904. She was the last member of a family of three brothers and three sisters to die. One brother, Nicholas, was killed while serving with the Federal army during the Civil war. People who attended from a distance were: Mr.& Mrs. Arthur Lilly, Rice Lake, Wi; Mrs. Margaret Lilly, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lilly and family; Mrs. Mary Lilly and family and Mrs. Ella Eichler and family, all of Fort Dodge. Mark Lilly, DesMoines; Frank and Ethel Lilly, Chicago, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Eggenberg, Iowa City, Ia; R.W. Beuter, Solon; Mr. & Mrs. Chas Fitzgerald, Marshall, MN; Joseph and Mae White, Grand Junction; Mr. & Mrs. Baynum Young, Miami, Fl; Mr.& Mrs. Thomas Ashley, Newell; and Mrs. Cora Floyd, Sioux Falls, SD.
