Pocahontas Democrat, Sep. 8, 1904: A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Thompson in Pocahontas, Sunday, August 29, the occasion being in honor of Mrs. Thompson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Spielman of Fonds, the day being the seventy-fifth birthday of Mrs. Spielman, and the eightieth birthday of Mr. Spielman. This happy and contented old couple are both natives of Boden, Germany. Those present, members of the family, were Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gottfried and their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Earnest Gottfried, Mr. and Mrs. Will Wykoff all of Fonda Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Adams of Perry, Iowa, and a number of children. The Mesdames Gottfried, Wykoff and Adams are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Spielman. Two sons reside in Fonda, Fred and Jake, and one daughter Mrs. L. J. Leib lives at LeMars, who were not present. Mr. Spielman is more active than many men ten years his junior and is able to get around and do a pretty good day's work.
