Carolyn E. Strong

Carolyn E. Strong, 88, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and former LeMars resident died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Fort Walton Beach Health and Rehabilitatin Center in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

The former Carolyn Elizabeth Reeves was born Feb. 16, 1911, on the family farm near Seney, the daughter of William and Sarah Rose (Weber) Reeves. She graduated from LeMars Central High School and the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, as a registered nurse. She was the director of nursing at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars for many years. On Aug. 8, 1934, she married Allan C. Strong. Mr. Strong died Aug. 1, 1984.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Jane and Larry Voas of Biloxi, Miss., and Connie Lou and Joseph McBride of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Lenora Reeves of LeMars; one grandson, Dr. Jeffrey Mark Voas of Sterling, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pearl V. Kurtz and Vera M. Cummings; and a brother, Clarence W. Reeves.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, LeMars. Visitations will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning until service time.

A memorial has been established for the Seney United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
