Edward E. KurtzEdward Ernest Kurtz, 83, of 1233 1st Ave. SW, LeMars, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 1986) at his home after a short illness.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Kurtz was born July 26, 1903, at Nordoway (sic-Nodaway county), Mo., the son of Joseph and Rose (Oppliger) Kurtz. He attended business college at Kansas City and then worked at Omaha.
Following his Feb. 22, 1937, marriage at Omaha to Pearl Reeves, the couple farmed in Stanton Township [Plymouth county, Iowa]. They moved to LeMars in 1956 where Mr. Kurtz was in the construction business until 1975.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees and the building committee during the construction of the present church. He was general contractor for the present church parsonage.
Survivors are his wife, Pearl, of LeMars; a daughter, Mrs. John (Carol) Pemberton of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a brother, Roy Kurtz, of Kendall, Kans.; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Sylvia) Roth of Nyss, Ore.; and two grandsons, Douglas Pemberton of New York City and James Pemberton of Eden Prairie, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister.
Memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
