Ethel F. Donlin

LEMARS, Iowa--Ethel Fern Donlin, 95, of LeMars died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present after 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Donlin was born April 12, 1902, in Seney, Iowa, the daughter of William and Martha (Reeves) Cook. She was raised in Seney and attended country school.

She was married to Joseph "Jay" Donlin on Feb. 15, 1922, in Seney. The couple lived in the LeMars, Merrill and Hinton, Iowa areas. He died in September 1984.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and reading.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Esther and Wayne Hamilton of Merrill; a son and his wife, Don and Glenda of Merrill; four grandchildren, Marlene McKibben, Lee Bell, Val Smith, and D. J. Donlin; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Verla (sic--Virla) DeRaad of Coffeyville, Kan.; a brother, John "Jack" Cook of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Wendt and a sister, Esther Criswell.

Pallbearers will be Peter, Dan and Philip Smith, Mark and Larry McKibben, Chris Bell, and D. J. Donlin.
