From the LeMars Sentinel, Friday, August 20, 1982, Page 1, Columns 2-5:

Mrs. Lloyd (Stella) Ewers, 78, route 4, LeMars, was dead at the scene after she was hit by a car driven by her husband at the couple's farm home Thursday evening.

Plymouth deputy sheriff Dennis Osterbuhr said the couple had returned from shopping in LeMars and stopped at the house to unload groceries about 5:15 p.m. Mrs. Ewers went to the garage to open the double doors which were split in the middle.

Osterbuhr reported Mr. Ewers drove the recently purchased new car to the garage and his foot apparently slipped from the brake to gas pedal. Mrs. Ewers was struck by the car and was carried by the vehicle on through the garage.

Mr. Ewers has been in ill health and was in shock after the accident. He was taken to Floyd Valley hospital. The Ireton ambulance transported Mrs. Ewers to the same hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ewers will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at the Mauer funeral chapel in LeMars. Rev. James Ransom will officiate and burial will be in LeMars memorial cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home.
