LE MARS --Marvin B. Marienau, 79, of Le Mars died Saturday, August 23, 2003, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Marvin B. Marienau was born October 4, 1923, in Brunsville to Ben and Ida (Berg) Marienau. He attended country school in Plymouth and Sioux Counties. He married Elverna Swisher Jan. 14, 1943, at Dakota City, Neb.

Marvin worked for several years for the Great Northern Railroad. He later worked for Wincharger / Zenith Corporation in Sioux City. He went to school for television repair and worked as a self-employed television repairman for many years.

Marvin loved music. He played the fiddle and mandolin. He was a member of the Siouxland Country Music Association and enjoyed playing in the "jam" sessions in South Sioux City. He had played the fiddle for several area bands. In later years, Marvin enjoyed playing his fiddle and mandolin at area nursing homes. He enjoyed the quality time he spent with his grandchildren.

In October of 2002, Marvin made his home at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Vande Hoef, Patsy and her husband Bill Gengler, and Eunice and her friend Jeff Eppinga, all of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren, Michael and Suzie Vande Hoef of Le Mars, Robert and Angel Vande Hoef of Le Mars, Sandy and Michael Lehner of Remsen, Scott and Lisa Reiter of Le Mars, Steve and Shelly Reiter of Le Mars, Rodney and Martha Toben of Le Mars, Robin Toben of Le Mars, Nick and Amanda Gengler of Le Mars, and Greg Gengler of Le Mars; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great - great - granddaughter; three brothers, Norman and Neva Marienau of Hawarden, Leonard and Eleanor Marienau of Ireton and Robert Marienau of California; three sisters, Eilene and Henry Vander Helm of Hawarden, Evelyn Gronemeyer of Hawarden, and Lorraine and Donald Luksan of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Ida Mae Marienau; his wife, Elverna on Dec. 7, 2000; a son-in-law, Marvin Vande Hoef on Oct. 29, 2002; and an infant granddaughter, Sheila Vande Hoef.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Merrill, with the Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Vande Hoef, Robert Vande Hoef, Scott Reiter, Steve Reiter, Rodney Toben, Nicholas Gengler. Honorary pallbearers will be Robin Toben, Sandy Lehner, and Greg Gengler.
