DEATH OF MISS FURCHNER

Deceased Young Woman Formerly Lived in LeMars

Craig Independent: Mrs. S. W. Edwards received a message about noon Wednesday stating that her sister, Miss Dorothea Furchner, was very sick at Ottumwa, Iowa, and that if she wished to see her alive she should come immediately.

Mrs. L. Collman, prepared to go and later on another message came saying that the lady died at three o’clock that afternoon.

Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Collmann left on the evening train for Ottumwa for the purpose of bringing the body here for burial in the Grant township cemetery.

Dorothea Furchner was born two miles west from Craig, on the farm now occupied by Ames Hoeck, twenty-seven years ago the first of last October. She chose nursing as her life’s work and graduated as a nurse at Burlington eight years ago and has been actively employed in that work ever since.

For the greater part of the last spring and summer she nursed her little niece, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Collman, now deceased, and since her mother, Mrs. Mary Furchner, was hurt at Ireton last September has been almost constantly at her beside until a few weeks ago when she went to Ottumwa.

She was not feeling the best when she left here but paid no particular attention to that, thinking she was pretty well worn out from the long siege of nursing. Bronchial trouble was the cause of her death.
