Augusta Margarethe Martfeld daughter of Friedrich Martfeld and his wife, Margarethe, nee Siebels, was born July 17, 1882, in Jever, Germany. In her infancy she was baptized, instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. When 18 years of age she and her mother left the old home for the U.S.A. and came to Johnson township. Here she was married to Onno Onken, August 22, 1901.
This happy union was blessed with six children, all of whom live in this community. When married she moved to Grant township, where she, with the exception of three years, during which she lived in LeMars, lived the remainder of her life. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a faithful member of her congregation.
The death of the departed is mourned by her step-father, Henry Rolapp of LeMars; her husband and following children; Mrs. Frank Freiber, John and Fred Onken, Henrietta who is still at home, Mrs. Charlie Kluver, Onno, Jr., and two grandchildren, Marlyn Onken and Ludella Kluver.
Further by three brothers; Dick Martfeld, Brunsville; Hans and Fred Martfeld, Brunsville; Hans and Fred Martfeld, LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. Gerd Wilken, Mrs. August Borchers, both of Akron.
The departed attained an age of 58 years, 2 months and 24 days.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at two o’clock from the Grant towship Lutheran church. Interment was in the Grant township cemetery under the direction of Mauer’s funeral home.
