FUNERAL MONDAY FOR LONGTIME RESIDENT

Edward D. Buss, 98, LeMars, longtime area resident, died early Friday (Aug. 15, 1986) at Plymouth Manor Care Center, one day after his 98th birthday. He had lived at the center since Feb. 11, 1982.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Buss was born Aug. 14, 1888, at Darlington, Wis., to Silas and Abbie Ruskell Buss. He worked on farms in Wisconsin and graduated from the country school.

In 1907, he came to LeMars to be employed on the farm of his uncle, W.J. Buss, for five years. In 1912, he started farming with his brother, Harry Buss, on their uncle’s farm.

Maude Lancaster and Mr. Buss were married at Seney Dec. 31, 1914. He retired from farming in 1953, and moved to LeMars.

Mrs. Buss died Nov. 8, 1966. The couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 14, 1964.

He joined the Methodist Church in Seney in 1910, where he served on the board and was a Sunday School instructor and superintendent.

In 1933, the family joined the E.U.B. Church in LeMars, where he held several offices on the board.

On Nov. 15, 1979, he married a long time friend, Mrs. Ethel Coppock.

Survivors are his wife, Ethel, LeMars; a son, Vincent E. Buss, Long Beach; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maude, and a daughter, Laura Elaine Mayer, who lived at Yankton; also three brothers and two sisters.
