Myles Kass, 63, longtime proprietor of Bob’s Drive Inn in Le Mars, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at his home in Le Mars surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Reverend Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, with a Parish Rosary at 3:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to the Le Mars Little League Program, Keep Okoboji Blue Foundation, and/or St. Croix Hospice.

Myles Rasar Kass was born February 5, 1954 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Robert C. and Claudine (Rasar) Kass. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School. He attended college at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City where he earned his associate’s degree in refrigeration maintenance.

He was united in marriage to Roberta Robinette on February 16, 1974 in Le Mars. Early on, Myles and Roberta lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked in refrigeration until moving back to Le Mars. He went to work for McCormack Distributing Company and helped his father in the family business, Bob’s Drive Inn. After his father’s sudden passing, Myles took over the family business. He and his family have continued the tradition that is, Bob’s Drive Inn. In 2003, Myles and his family opened their second location in Arnolds Park, Iowa. In January of 2007, they started a new business, 4 Brothers Bar and Grill, in Le Mars. After his diagnosis with cancer, Myles always remained positive and continued working right alongside his family. He enjoyed all his employees and he was so proud of all their accomplishments later on in life.

Being outdoors and spending time at Lake Okoboji was one of his greatest joys. Whether it was boating on the lake, listening to concerts in the “green space”, riding his bike to and from work, or serving his many customers. Myles was a proud supporter of the Le Mars Little League Program. He enjoyed coaching and watching all the kids play ball. He also enjoyed playing cards, tinkering in his garage, or driving his RV to an unknown destination. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Survivors include his wife over of 43 years, Roberta of Le Mars; seven children: Dustin (Micki) Kass of Omaha, NE, Clint (Alyce) Kass of Le Mars, Nathan (Tana) Kass of Le Mars, Kevin Kass of Le Mars, Kristi Kass of Iowa City, IA, Katy (J.R.) Johnson of Des Moines, IA, and Sarah (Jason) Boaz of Dallas, TX; 15 grandchildren; two brothers: Chuck (Laura) Kass of Arrow Grande, TX, and Scott (Marlene) Kass of West Okoboji, IA; two sisters: Claudia Kalous of De Pere, WI, and Charmaine Kass (Ron Vornbrock) of Merrill, IA; his mother in law: Rosemary Robinette of Le Mars; his in laws: Barbara Robinette, John Robinette, Rose (Terry) Nicosen, and Judy Robinette; his “special” son: Paul Hassman of Le Mars; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, “Moses”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Claudine Kass; his father in law: Arnold “A.J.” Robinette; two brothers: Douglas “Maynard” Kass and Mark Kass; his in laws: Joe Robinette and Bev (Norm) Cockrell; and his niece, Marni Lopez.
