MRS. G. LUCKEN IS CALLED BY DEATH

Resident Of Johnson Township Forty Years;
Funeral Services Friday

Mrs. Gerhard Lucken, a resident of Johnson township, this county, for the past forty years, passed away at her home Tuesday evening, June 5, 1945, after a lingering illness, at the age of 70 years and 8 months.

Mrs. Lucken, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Beermann, was born at Lippe, Detrnold, Germany. Later, with her family, she moved to Leerhafe, Ostfrieslund, where she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a young girl, she came to the United States in 1893, and located in Plymouth county, which had remained her home continuously since.

She was united in marriage with Gerhard Lueken in Preston township in 1894. Twelve children came to bless their union, nine of whom, with her husband, are left to mourn her departure.

The surviving children are: Four sons, Henry and Fred, of Akron; Bernard, of LeMars; Ernest, of Akron, serving in the U. S. Navy; five daughters, Mrs. Wallace Curry, of South Sioux City, Nebr.; Mrs. Leo Swain, of Burbank, S. D.; Mrs. Harley Bue, of Sioux City; Mrs. Theodore Erickson, of Vermillion, S. D., and Mrs. Charles Murphy, of LeMars. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The sincere sympathy of the community goes out to these relatives in the loss of a kind and devoted wife and mother. She will also be missed by many friends and neighbors, among whom she was highly esteemed for her kind, helpful and sympathetic nature.

Funeral services wore held last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Preston township Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. F. H. Voelker, of Craig. Interment was in the Preston church cemetery.

Ernest Lucken, son, of the Navy, arrived from California in time to attend his mother's funeral, making part of the trip by airplane.
