Death of Mrs. ELLIOT
Mrs. Nancy FRAZIER ELLIOTT age ninety-nine years was born May 2, 1814. She was married to Mr. ELLIOTT in 1870 and the following year they moved to Iowa and settled on the farm which they still reside. Mr. ELLIOT intended to take up a home ???? when he came to this state but was not able to do so. Conveniently, he pre-empted the land on which the family has lived here since.
The ELLIOTS were among the first settlers in this part of the state and experienced the difficulties that were met by all the pioneers. Mrs. ELLIOTT was and industrious women who continued to lead the hardworking life of the farm even after the struggle of the first few years was over. She never gave up the active interest she held in the farm and had been in good health until seventeen hours before her death.
Mr. and Mrs. ELLIOT were the parents of six children, of whom four survive. They are: Dr. C.L. ELLIOTT, of St. Jospeh, MO., and James W. ELLIOTT, professor of civil engineering at the University of Vermont, Burlington VA.,Nelson ELLIOT and Garnett ELLIOTT who live at home. The funeral was on Monday morning at ten o'clock at the home, interment was made in the Liberty township cemetery. [15 Feb 1910]
~Note: The date of birth, as typed in this obit, does not line up with age 99 years. According to a transcription of the Liberty Twp Cemetery the dates on her stone are: 02 May 1814 - 10 Feb 1910. Even with the tombstone dates, it does not make her 99 years of age at death. ?????
~Note: It tends to make more sense that she was born in 1844, and then married in 1870. This obit says that she had six children. Doing the math, being born in 1844 is likely more accurate.
