Jean Ann Hoffman, 72, of Maplewood MN, formerly of Le Mars and Spirit Lake, Iowa passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars. Reverend Kevin Richter will celebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 10:15 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com

Jean Ann (Schmidt) Hoffman was born February 7th, 1940 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Alberta (Timmer) Schmidt. She was raised near Rock Valley.

On December 13, 1954, Jean was united in marriage to James Edward Hoffman at St. Joseph's Church in Le Mars, Iowa. In their early life, they lived in Hawarden and then moved to Spirit Lake where they spent most of their married life before returning to the Le Mars area. Throughout the years, Jean worked at Berkley and Company and Dyno's Convenience Store.

She enjoyed reading books, attending book clubs, traveling on numerous bus trips, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Traveling to England to visit her grandson and great-grandson was one of Jean's most memorable moments in her last years. In her spare time, Jean belonged to many different organizations including volunteering at the hospital as President of the Hospital Auxiliary. While living in Le Mars, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Later, she was a member of St. Odilia Catholic Church in Shoreview, MN and was actively involved in the Catholic Daughters at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Cindy (David) Hansen of Spirit Lake, IA; five grandchildren, Melanie (Titon) Hoque of Maplewood, MN, Joshua (Lawanda) Hansen, currently serving in the Air Force at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM, Matthew (Amy) Hansen, currently serving in the Air Force at Whiteman AFB in Windsor, MO, Michael Hansen and Kathryn Hansen of Roseville, MN; eight great-grandchildren: Mollie Hinz, Teton and Madeline Hoque; James Hansen, Spencer and Monte Matthews; David and Matthew Hansen; a great-great grandson, Emmett David Hinz; her sister, Linda (Ray) Miller of Hawarden, IA; her brother, Randy (Cathy) Altena of Mound City, MO; her sisters-in-law: Betty Howard of Aurora, CO, Lois (Tony) Schumacher and Pat (Jim) Hansen of Le Mars, IA; her brothers-in-law: Larry (Sharon) Hoffman of Le Mars, IA, Lowell (Sharon) Hoffman of Anaheim, CA, Kenneth (Kitty) Hoffman of Rosemondt, CA, Keith (Paula) Hoffman of Boulder City, NV; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband James in 1996; her brothers: Larry and Jimmy Schmidt; niece Tonja Hoffman; a nephew Danny Henke; and one great-great niece Conner Moore. ©
