Mrs. Margaretha Jacobs Who with Her husband Homesteaded in Preston Township in 1872 Succumbs to Aliments of Old Age
Mrs. Margaretha Jacobs, a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at the home of her son, John Jacobs, in Preston Township on Friday. Death was due to hardening of the arteries and other complications of old age. Mrs. Jacobs was born in Germany on October 13, 1843. Her maiden name was Katharina Margaretha Kleihauer and was united in marriage to Fred Jacobs in her native land. They came to America in 1867, the year of their marriage. On their arrival in the United States, after a voyage of sixty five days in a sailing vessel, they came direct to Illinois where they located in Will county, where Mr. Jacobs engaged as a farm hand for a few years. They came to Plymouth county in 1872 and homesteaded in Preston township. They prospered and became the owners of several hundred acres of land. Mr. Jacobs died in 1903 and Mrs. Jacobs made her home with her son John Jacobs since. Fred and Margaretha Jacobs were the parents of two children, John and Helen Margaret who married Rudoplh Erks, a successful farmer of Preston township. Mrs. Jacobs was well known in the community especially among the older residents and was highly esteemed.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Preston township Lutheran church. Rev. Theo Meyer, officiating.
