Fred B. Onken, 83, Dies Of Injuries in Fall From Ladder

Rites Set Saturday For Retired Farmer

Fred Onken, 83, of 214 4th Ave. SW died unexpectedly Tuesday at Sacred Heart hospital of injuries suffered in a fall from a ladder.

He farmed in Grant township near Craig until retiring to LeMars in 1944.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran church in Grant township. Rev. Dennis Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Mauer's funeral home.

Born Feb. 26, 1879, at Dixon, Ill., Mr. Onken came to Plymouth county at the age of six years. His marriage to Catharina Doering took place Feb. 22, 1905, at her home in Grant township.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter Hannah Onken and a sister Mrs. Bertha Schoenrock all of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by his parents John D. and Henrietta Dircks Onken, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.
