Helen Marie Killeas, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, died on Monday August 1, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with Father Matt Hewitt of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, followed by a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Helen was born on June 27, 1925 in Sioux City, the daughter of Merlin and Marie (Rozenboom) Schueller. She grew up in Le Mars, attending schools there and graduating from Le Mars Central High School in 1943. After graduation she was employed with First National Bank of Le Mars.

On August 27, 1946 she married Vernon J. Killeas and they lived in Laurel, Nebraska, where they were involved in the creamery business. Later the family moved to Pender Nebraska and became co-owners of the Farmers Creamery. In 1973 Helen and Vernon returned to Le Mars to live. Over the years Helen enjoyed playing bridge, bowling and was an “avid” shopper, especially for her family. She spent time in her yard and loved taking care of her flowers. Summer weekends were spent at the family cabin on Lewis and Clark Lake near Crofton Nebraska. After returning to Le Mars, she kept a special connection with a group of high school classmates.

Helen was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. She cherished her family and all the time she spent with them, making each and every one feel so special.

Survivors include daughters: Andrea Peters (Roger) of Wisner NE, Mary Jean Breitbarth (Roger) of Lincoln NE, and Kristine Killeas of Sioux Falls SD; plus a special family friend Jenny Trotter also of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Matt & Pam (Brant, Logan and Braden) Peters, Nicole Peters, Alicia Peters, Christopher Peters, Kara Breitbarth, Jason & Karen (Katelyn) Breitbarth, Leah Breitbarth, Adam (Dani) Breitbarth; brother-in-law, James Koley of Houston TX; Sister-in-law and husband, Linda & Robert Slusser of Rancho Palos Verde CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Vernon; parents, Merlin & Marie Schueller; Vernon’s parents, Jack & Grace Killeas; sister and husband, Jack & Margaret Dorr; and sister-in-law Patricia Koley.
