James J. Peterson, died Sunday January 28, 1996 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Peterson was born December 26, 1917 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of John C. and Ella (Glasgow) Peterson. He grew up in the Sioux City area and graduated from East High School. After graduation he started farming in the Remsen-Oyens area until 1980 when they retired and moved into Oyens.
Mr. Peterson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. He loved the outdoors and loved to walk, often walking from his home in Oyens to Remsen and then back to Oyens, a distance of 10 miles. In his later years he loved to ride his bicycle.
Mr. Peterson was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred [Nielsen Peterson]; a son, Thomas James Peterson and his wife Charlene of Le Mars; two daughters, Gloria Anne Treinen and her husband Jerry of Remsen, and Carol Kristine Ritz and her husband Phil of Remsen; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one great-grandson; nine step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Farley H. Peterson and his wife Charolette, of Le Mars and Norman C. Peterson and his wife Donna of Santa Monica, California; and a sister-in-law, Madeline Peterson of Sioux City, Iowa.
