Doris Wright Ludwigs, 97, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 at her son’s home near Remsen, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Tim Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Union Township Cemetery. Visitations will be Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ken Wright, Don Gettner, Gary Pyle, Jim Harms, Andy Pick, and Arlie Pick.

Doris Lola Ropte was born September 12, 1913 on a farm near Coleridge, Nebraska to Burno and Magdalena (Wiederaender) Ropte. Doris was baptized October 5, 1913 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, NE and confirmed in 1927 at Salem Lutheran Church at Dakota City, NE. As a young girl, German was spoken exclusively in her home so when she began school Doris also had to learn English. She attended country school near her home in Dakota County, NE and later attended and graduated from high school in South Sioux City, NE in 1931. While attending high school, she stayed with families in South Sioux City. Following high school, Doris continued her education at Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska where she received he teaching certificate. She went on to teach country school in Dakota County.

Doris was united in marriage to Roy F. Wright on May 4, 1935 at Salem Lutheran at Dakota City. The couple settled on a farm in Union Township, near Remsen, Iowa and raised their family. In 1965, Roy passed away and Doris later moved to Le Mars. While living in Le Mars, she worked at Vander Meer Bakery where she met and later married Clarence Ludwigs on May 26, 1973 at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Clarence passed away in 1991.

Doris was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and attended Sarah Circle. She had served as President of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau Ladies from 1967 to 1968. She also was a very talented pianist; giving lessons to countless members of the community and accompanied many at the Union Township School. She had also served several churches in the area for Sunday services and weddings. Doris also enjoyed baking and sewing along with enjoying her family.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Carol R. Pick and Maureen Gettner and her husband Don of Remsen; 2 sons, Ken Wright of Remsen and Wendel Wright and his wife Kim of Florida; 16 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Vivian Ropte of Madison, NE and Gertrude Gluck of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burno and Magdalena (Wiederaender) Ropte; husbands Roy and Clarence; 3 brothers, Warren, Marvin and Don Ropte; a sister-in-law, Wilma Ropte; a son-in-law, Darold Pick; a great granddaughter, Amanda Stoos; and a great great granddaughter, Charlie Rosanne Pick.
