Topf, 84, a longtime LeMars, Iowa resident and retired farmer, died Saturday, March 18, 1989 at Stonehill Care Center Dubuque, Iowa after a brief illness. His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1989 at St.Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars with his son, the Rev. Thomas Topf of Estherville, Iowa, celebrant and the Rev. Dale George as homilist. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, LeMars.
Omer was born March 22, 1904 at Charter Oak, Iowa to Ernest and Elizabeth (Ullrich) Topf. He was graduated from St. Joseph's parochial school in LeMars. On April 14, 1926 he married Florence Deegan at LeMars. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa for seven years and in the Salix area for 35 years. They retired to LeMars in 1969. He was a member of St.Joseph's Church, the Holy Name Society and he was an honorary life member of Trinity Council 1466 of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence February 29, 1988; two sisters and five brothers.
Survivors are six sons, Omer F. Topf of Ossian, Iowa, William C. Topf of Orange, California, Philip A. Topf of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rev. Thomas J. Topf of Estherville, Iowa, Robert J. Topf of Salix, Iowa, and Mark D. Topf of Dubuque, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Jonas of Orange, California; 29 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Nicholas Topf of Whiting, Iowa.
