Stinton, Silas L. 1863 - 1939

Silas L. Stinton a pioneer, resident of western Plymouth county, passed away at noon Wednesday, March 22, 1939, following an illness of fourteen months of ailments incident to advanced years, at the home of his son, Everett Stinton, in Westfield township, aged 75 years, 8 months and 10 days.

Silas L. Stinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Stinton, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, July 3, 1863, and settled in Johnson township, Plymouth County, Iowa, in the early 70's. In January 1, 1889, he was united in marriage with Bertha Burnett at Le Mars, and to them were born three sons and two daughters. His wife preceded him in death two years ago.

Mr. Stinton engaged in farming near Adaville for n number of years, and after retiring from the farm he lived in Akron for some time. He is survived by three sons, Ray and Glenn, of Merrill, Iowa, and Everett, near Akron, and two daughters, Mrs. Veta Rulon, of Huntington Park, Calif., and Mrs. Laura Olson, of Akron; two half-brothers, Joe Stinton, of Nebraska, and E. J. Stinton, of Lucas, S. D.; one half-sister, Mrs. Lytha Morehead, of Montevideo Minn.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren,

His brother, George Stinton, of Akron, preceded him in death two years ago. A man of upright character, quiet, unassuming and of pleasant nature, he gained many friends during his long residence in this community, who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Akron and at 2 o'clock at the Akron M. E. Church, Rev. J. F. Moore officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Adaville:
