Richard Duncan, 78, of Le Mars passed away Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Jason Larson of the Le Mars United Methodist Church officiating. Private Interment with Military Honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion post #241 of Le Mars will be Monday at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be from 6:00 p.m. until service time Sunday evening.

Richard Duane Duncan was born December 21, 1931 to Jess and Leona Duncan. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. While in the Navy, Richard worked with aviation electronics. Following his discharge from the service, Richard attended and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1959. He worked for Honeywell for several years as an instrument designer. He later worked as an engineer for a manufacturing firm in Winterset, Iowa. In his earlier years, Richard enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, and snowmobiling with his family.

In 2001, Richard moved to Le Mars and lived with the Pride Group. He enjoyed going out to eat with friends, shopping for clothes at Claussen’s, and trips to the Curry’s Barbershop. Richard always had pride in his appearance. He served as secretary for the Consumer Counsel at the Pride Group. For the last few years, Richard and his roommates lived at the acreage facility. He enjoyed outdoor cooking, reading the newspaper, and trips to the library. He enjoyed following and supporting Iowa State University athletic programs.

Survivors include his three sons, Mark Duncan and his wife Lori of St. Paul, MN, Brian Duncan and his wife Sandy of Maple Grove, MN, and David Duncan of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Diane Brower of Ft. Worth, Texas; and his friends and family at the Pride Group. He was preceded in death by his parents.
