Marvin L. Johansen, 84, of Le Mars passed away Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with Reverend Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars followed by a 5:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitations will continue Monday afternoon at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Norm Nielsen, Bill Renken, Warren Oetken, Randall Jensen, Jeff Berkenpas, and Jeff Petersen. Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marvin Lloyd Johansen was born November 15, 1922 on the family farm in Washington Township, near Merrill, Iowa to Peter and Anna (Petersen) Johansen. Marvin was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. He attended country school near his home in Washington Township. Marvin had lived in Plymouth County all of his life. Marvin was united in marriage to Norma Jean Bryant on February 14, 1943 at Dakota City, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Dean, Barb, and Rhonda.

Marvin worked at the Plymouth COOP station in Le Mars from 1946 to 1950 and then purchased a gas station that he called Marv’s Phillips 66 that he operated till 1953. In 1953, Marvin went to work for Well’s Dairy driving a milk route until 1959. Marvin then farmed in Washington Township for several years until his retirement in 1972 when they moved to Le Mars. In his retirement he worked for Meis Seed and Feed for 13 years until 1985.

Marvin and Norma Jean were joined Grace Lutheran Church in 1985. At Grace Marvin had served as an usher for several years and also enjoyed attending the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group and the Senior Group. Through the years the Johansen’s had belonged to St. John’s Lutheran in Merrill and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township.

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Marvin and Norma Jean also enjoyed playing pinochle. Marvin enjoyed his children and grandchildren. In later years, Marvin was a very dedicated caregiver to his wife. Norma Jean passed away three years ago, April 27, 2004.

Survivors include his children: Dean Johansen and his wife Sandy of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Barb Kowalke and her husband Denny of Le Mars, Rhonda Tammen and her husband Rod of Le Mars; three granddaughters: Jamie Ioos and her special friend Mark Nutini of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jocelyn Woods and her husband Glen of Carona, California, and Tracy Moore and her husband Kyle of Sioux City, Iowa; a grandson, Troy Tammen and his wife Dawn of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; and 4 great grandchildren: Cameron and Caleb Tammen and Bryce and Kayden Moore.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna (Petersen) Johansen; his wife, Norma Jean; 2 brothers, Jens “Bud” and Arnold Johansen; and a sister, Edna Bruscher.
