Ronald W. “Ron” Mortensen, 54, of Ketchikan, AK and formerly of Le Mars passed away Thursday September 30, 2010 at Waimea, Hawaii, following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday October 11, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitations will begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at St. John’s Church from 9:30 a.m. until Service time.

Ronald Wayne Mortensen was born March 5, 1956 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Eldon and Doris (Crawford) Mortensen. Ron grew up near Le Mars and was a graduate of Le Mars Community High School in 1974. He married Lorrie Ann Cook on August 21, 1976 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He farmed with his father for several years before obtaining his C.P.A. Ron received his B.A. in accounting with honors at Westmar College in Le Mars, IA in 1990. While living in Le Mars he was employed for a few years with Puhl and Associates as a C.P.A. In 1995 Ron and Lorrie moved their family to Ketchikan, Alaska where he was a partner with the Milner, Howard, Mortensen, Palmer and Johnson PC accounting firm in Ketchikan from 1995 to the present.

Ron was a member of Rotary International with First City Rotary in Ketchikan since 2003 and had served as Treasurer and was also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was active as a Catechism Teacher and was also a Board Member. Ron was also very involved with Little League Baseball and had coached Pee Wee’s through Majors. He was also very active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He had been a Cub Master for Pack 3 in Le Mars with the Cub Scouts and later was a Scout Master for Troop 184 with the Boy Scouts of America in Le Mars. While living in Alaska, Ron was a Scout Master for Troop 3 with the Boy Scouts of America in Ketchikan.

Ron was an avid sports fan and was a staunch supporter of the Iowa State University Cyclones, the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his wife Lorrie Mortensen of Waimea, HI; three sons: Ryan Mortensen of Des Moines, IA, Aaron Mortensen of Brookings, SD, and Tyler Mortensen and his special friend Rena Gabor of Vancouver, WA; his parents: Eldon and Doris Mortensen of Le Mars; a brother Marland Mortensen and his wife Michelle of Kansas City, KS; a sister Ardis Harms of Le Mars; three brothers-in-law: Gary Cook of Le Mars, Terry Cook and his wife Julie of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lary Cook of New Ulm, MN; and a father-in-law Dale Cook of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Christopher Mortensen; his mother-in-law Marilyn Cook; his paternal grandparents: Niels and Erma Mortensen; and his maternal grandparents: Lyle and Leona Crawford.
