Florence Adams

Florence Adams, 90, Osakis, Minn., formerly of Akron, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1992 at the Osakis Community Memorial home.

Services were Thursday at Schroeder funeral home, Akron. Rev. Donald Greenough officiated. Jon Harris, soloist, sang "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art", accompanied by Carol Harris. Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Akron. Pallbearers were Michael Adams, Darrell Trembath, Gail Hemmingsen, Craig Hemmingsen, Raymond McCorkell, and Lee Harris.

Mrs. Adams was born May 30, 1901, in Sioux City, Iowa to William and Clara (Prentiss) Otis. She was adopted in infancy by her uncle and aunt, Edwin and Lavina Larkin, after the death of her mother. She attended schools in Rapid City, Geddes and Hudson, S.D., and attended college in Yankton. She married James W. Adams April 19, 1920 in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Maurice before moving to Sioux City, where she was employed as a beauty operator, retail clerk, and worked on battery and radio assembly lines during World War II. Mr. Adams died in 1978. She moved to Mankato, Minn., in 1978 and had lived at Koppen Gardens and the Mankato Lutheran Home. In 1990 she moved to the Osakis Community Memorial home. Mrs. Adams was a member of Whitfield and Wesley United Methodist churches in Sioux City and Akron. She enjoyed cards, handicraft, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include a son, James of Osakis; two grandchildren, Rev. Susan Adams Trembath of Vernon Center, Minn., and Michael Adamsof Bellevue, Neb.; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and two, half-brothers by adoption.
