Vincent B. Deiterman, 88, of Le Mars, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Vincent Bernard Deiterman was born Dec. 8, 1921, on a farm near Ruble, the son of John A. and Josephine (Henrich) Deiterman. He moved with his parents at a very young age to a farm just south of Le Mars.

Vince grew up in the Le Mars area and received his education at Steele Schoolhouse country school. At the age of 21, he moved with his family to a farm five miles north of Sutherland.

On Dec. 27, 1952, Vincent married Elizabeth Obermire at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, they farmed for five years southwest of Royal before moving to the Obermire family farm just south of Le Mars in 1957. They operated the farm until 1989 at which time they retired and moved to Le Mars.

Vince was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, The Good Neighbors Club and Farm Bureau.

He loved spending time with his family and seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Deiterman, of Le Mars; four children; David Deiterman and his wife, Kathy, of Las Vegas, Nev., Donna Schmitt and her husband, Marvin, of Remsen, Denice Peters and her husband, Doug, of Denison, and Diane Deiterman, of Le Mars; four grandchildren: Chelsea Deiterman of Las Vegas, Nev., Brian Schmitt, of Remsen, Mandy Lange and her husband John, of Carroll, and Mike Peters of Denison; three great-grandchildren: Sarah, Michelle and Scott Lange, of Carroll; three sisters: Rosalind Lohberger, of Paullina, Marge Stanek, of Sioux City, and Sylvia Nikles of Sutherland; two sisters-in-law: Lois Deiterman, of Sutherland and Rosemary Carney and her husband Joe, of Longmont, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: John Deiterman in infancy and Ray Deiterman; and three brothers-in-law: Joe Lohberger, Joe Stanek and Al Nikles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Matt Hewitt presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the mass Tuesday at St. James Church.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Weber, Lloyd Braband, Ken Kilker, Mike Peters, John Lange and John Lohberger.
