Richard Rolfs Jr., 64, of Le Mars, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, while vacationing in the Dallas, Texas area.
Richard Rolfs Jr. was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Richard D. and Irene (Hanson) Rolfs. He graduated from Le Mars High School. Rich went into partnership and operated Le Mars Auto Parts until 1974, a business that he greatly expanded. He then went to work in Sioux City, with Reliable Auto Parts. Rich relocated to Garland, Texas and worked with Automotive Innovations.
Three years ago he returned to Le Mars to care for his father.
Rich was an avid gun collector and participated in numerous shooting competitions. In earlier years, he was active in drag racing. Most recently, he enjoyed radio controlled car racing. Rich lived to work and was very exacting with all that he did.
He is survived by his son Dustin Rolfs and his wife Suprit of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Gary Rolfs and his wife Mary of Rochester, Minn.; nieces and a nephew Meredith, Charlie and Lauren Rolfs of Rochester, Minn.; and aunts Elsie Foster of Sioux City, and Shirley Meidinger of Jamestown, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Cort Rolfs.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson officiated. Burial was at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. There was one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.
