Marla Jean Boyer, 58, of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 26, 2009, at her home in Le Mars.
The former Marla Jean Schilmoeller was born May 14, 1951, in Granville, the daughter of Alphonse and Helen (Kellen) Schilmoeller. She grew up in Granville and graduated from Spalding Catholic High School in 1969. On Feb. 12, 1971, Marla married Dan Madsen at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars and had three children: Rachel, Cory and Sara. Marla had been employed for several years as the activity coordinator at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
She was a homemaker for many years following her stroke. She later worked at Plymouth Manor Care Center and The Abbey of Le Mars as a nurse's aid.
Marla married Steve Boyer on Nov. 14, 1984, in Le Mars.
Grandma Marla was a avid Green Bay Packers fan and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren who loved their Grandma's candy dish. She had a generous spirit and loved to laugh. While life was a challenge many times for Marla, she is at peace with her heavenly Father.
Survivors include her three children and their families: Rachel Wurth and her husband Jeff and their children Taylor, Zach, and Mariah Wurth, all of Le Mars, Cory "Biff" Madsen and his wife Sarah and their children Alexis, Wyatt, Maggie and Trey Madsen, all of Lincoln, Neb., and Sara Madsen and her children Kennedy and Karlee Madsen, all of Le Mars; her husband Steve Boyer of Le Mars; seven sisters and brothers: Mary and John VanderMolen of Remsen, Marge and Dudley Kool of Sioux City, Pat and Dick McDougall of Coralville, Bobbie and Cliff Hansen of Le Mars, Victoria and John Robbins of Elkhorn, Neb., Fred and Peg Schilmoeller of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dale and Drema Schilmoeller of Lake Wales, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers: Richard, Larry and Steve Schilmoeller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Matt Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.
Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars where there will be a parish rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Wurth, Zach Wurth, Wyatt Madsen, Jeff Miller, Troy Miller, Rob Farmer and Todd VanderMolen. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexis Madsen, Mariah Wurth, Maggie Madsen, Trey Madsen, Kennedy Madsen and Karlee Madsen.
