Glaydella M. Verzani, 88, of Sioux City died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with family present 6 to 8:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Mrs. Verzani was born March 14, 1914, in Remsen, the daughter of Bernard and Catherine (Mayrose) Bornhorst. Her father was the blacksmith in Remsen for many years. She was raised in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1932. She attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City, where she received her R.N. degree.
She married Alphonse J. Verzani on June 1, 1943, in Hollywood, Calif. He died Oct. 21, 2001, in Sioux City.
She worked at Cedar of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood for nine years. She moved to Sioux City in 1946 and worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 16 years. She attended special training in the Intensive Coronary Care Unit, which she helped start at St. Joseph Hospital. She retired in 1977. After she retired from the hospital, she worked with her husband at Verzani Printing.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the church altar society and the Carmelite Guild.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Philip and Susan of Villa Park, Calif., Frederick and Patricia of Helena, Mont., and James and Sue of Largo, Fla.; three daughters, Mary and her husband, Edward McGuiness of Arcadia, Calif., Carol and her husband, William Hegstrom of Brooks, Maine, and Julie Marr of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Barrett of Portland, Ore.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Virgil and Sylvester Borhorst, and Joseph as a child; and two sisters, Celeste O'Hara and Armella as a child.
Pallbearers will be Don Verzani, Liam McGuiness, Tony Verzani, Willie Marr, Mark Verzani and Alan Verzani.
