Dixie Morton, 60, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Dixie Kulvik was born Oct. 28, 1948 at Akron, the daughter of Hubert and Lorraine (Peck) Kulvik. She lived in Sioux City for many years. Dixie was united in marriage to Noel Morton on May 9, 1970 at Sioux City.

Dixie worked as a dietician at Tommy Dale Memorial Care Center in Sioux City for 10 years. In 1980, Dixie and Noel moved to Thief River Falls, Minn., where she worked for the Occupational Development Center. In 2001, Dixie and Noel moved back to Le Mars. She has been a resident of The Abbey since 2001. Noel died March 12, 2007.

Dixie enjoyed doing arts and crafts. While living in Minnesota, she would show her creations at many area flea markets. While living in Le Mars, she showed and received several ribbons for her creations at the Plymouth County Fair. She also will be remembered for her talents baking. Dixie enjoyed family and treasured the moments babysitting for family members.

Survivors include two sisters, Susan Madden of Le Mars and Alberta Madden and her husband Duane of Akron; three brothers, Albert Kulvik and his wife Violet of Thief River Falls, Minn., Hubert Kulvik Jr. and his wife Shirley of Sioux City, and Jeff Kulvik and his wife Unice of East Grand Forks, Minn.; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband Noel; parents, Hubert and Lorraine (Peck) Kulvik; and a nephew, Duane Nicholas Madden.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Akron, with the Rev. Dawn Quame officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 6 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jason Brown, Michael Sams, Darrell Sams, Kenny Stroman, Jennifer Madden, Dennis Madden, Carl Albert, and David Lee. Honorary casket bearers will be Alberta Madden, Susan Madden, Patrick Kulvik, Christina Lee, Mary Sams, Al Kulvik Jr., Daniel Sams, Carol Lewison, and Shirley Bierman.
