Sylvia Schultz, 92, formerly of Merrill, began her heavenly celebration Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Naomi, in Cape Coral, Fla.
Sylvia Johanna Dorothy (Aronson) Schultz was born April 19, 1917, at the home of Andrew and Elsa (Blomberg) Aronson, Albert City. She graduated from Albert City High School and nurse's training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Sylvia married Harry Schultz of Merrill, Nov. 20, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn. They were blessed with four children: Esther, Roger, Andrew, and Naomi.
Her nursing profession began at Floyd Valley Hospital. Later, she was employed at Brentwood Nursing Home in Le Mars, and also did private duty nursing.
Harry and Sylvia continued to live on the family farm after their retirement until 2001. They lived with their daughters or son before residing at Morningside Nursing & Rehab Center in Sioux City, 2003-2006. In July 2006, Sylvia moved to live with her daughter, Naomi, where she was provided excellent, personalized care.
During her 56 years attending Le Mars Assembly of God Church, Sylvia was pianist, organist, Sunday school teacher, Women's Missionary Council officer, and ladies Bible study leader. When she moved to Sioux City, she transferred her membership to Morningside Assembly of God, Sioux City.
She was a member of Iowa Lutheran Hospital alumni and active in Christian Women's Club in Le Mars. In Florida she faithfully attended Faith Assembly.
Sylvia loved music and studying the Bible. Her gift of mercy was demonstrated by visiting shut-ins and donating her handwork projects. She shared her faith with everyone, was a true servant and saw many answers to her prayers.
She is survived by her children: Esther (Laurin) Eichhorn of Sioux City, Roger (Barbara) Schultz of Annandale, Va., Andrew (Phyllis) Schultz of Council Bluffs, and Naomi (Rev. Phil) Goss of Cape Coral, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Cheryl (Dan) Kruger, Bryan (Teresa) Eichhorn, Tami (Tri) Tran, Teena Schultz, Teresa Schultz, Toni (Matthew) Gouge, Jason (Chase) Goss, Lucas Goss, Nathan (Lee) Goss, Rachel (Steven) Porter, Stephen (Tori) Goss; 13 great-grandchildren: Joseph, Samuel, and Timothy Kruger, Ehryn Eichhorn, Andrew and Elizabeth Tran, Jonathan and Chloe Gouge, Samuel, Cassondra, Peyton, and Trinity Goss and Jude Goss; four brothers Oliver, Martin (Darlene), and Melvin (Mavis) Aronson of Albert City, Conrad (Betty) of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Lillian Schultz of Laurens, and Olivia Cole of Friday Harbor, Wash.; two sisters-in- law, Bernell Aronson of Portland, Ore., and Blanche Schultz of Little Falls, Minn.
These loved ones who have preceded her in death include her husband of 63 years, Harry Schultz; her parents, Andrew and Elsa (Blomberg) Aronson; a sister, Viola Meyer; and a brother Robert Aronson; four sisters-in-law, Mary Aronson, Mary Ellen Kehrberg, Alva Kehrberg, and Lula Schultz; six brothers-in-law Fred Cole, Fred Meyer, Roy Schultz, Edward Kehrberg, Carl Schultz, Ivan Schultz.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Phil Goss officiating. Interment will be at the Stanton Township Cemetery, rural Merrill. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the funeral home on Friday. Visitations will continue Friday morning from 10 a.m. until service time.
