PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Adrian S. Kale, 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the Carlsen Funeral Home (107 12th St. S.E.) of Le Mars. Inurnment of the ashes will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home Monday morning. Following the services the family will greet friends in the Carlsen Fellowship Center.

LE MARS, Iowa -- Adrian S. Kale, 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.

A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Inurnment of the ashes will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. The family will also greet friends following services in the Carlsen Fellowship Center.

Adrian was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Le Mars, the son of Cynthia and Sylvester Kale. He grew up in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1935. He attended Western Union College for one year, and then transferred to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He learned to fly in the CPT program there.

Between 1941 and 1943, Adrian served as a flight instructor for civilian and military programs. In August 1943, he joined United Air Lines and flew as a first officer until his promotion to captain on Jan. 12, 1947. After flying a wide range of aircraft, he retired from United on Dec. 1, 1978.

Adrian Kale and Helen (Kern) Coppock were married on Dec. 31, 1976. They made their home in Escondido, Calif., until 1987, when they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. In 1988, Punta Gorda became their winter home.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; a stepson and his wife, Darrell and Kathy Coppock of Marion, Iowa; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Janice (Coppock) Rowe.
