LE MARS, Iowa -- Donald J. Watson, 65, of Le Mars died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Donald John Watson was born July 12, 1937, in Le Mars, to John and Viola (Mueller) Watson. He received his education in Le Mars. He had served his country with the Iowa National Guard for four years.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Sandbloom on Nov. 15, 1968. He was an independent truck driver and, for the last several years, leased his truck to P.F.T. Roberson trucking company for Galesburg, Ill. While driving for P.F.T., he was recognized for driving 1 million miles without an accident.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of Le Mars Eagles Aerie 1381.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dorothy of Le Mars; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Gregg Gibson of Bonner Springs, Kan., and Nancy and Eugene Kreiter of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren, Matthew and Beth Gibson and Justin and Colin Kreiter; a sister, Helen Wallin of LaJunta, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Gibson, Steve Wallin, Tom Ruden, Les Van Berkum, Robert Wacheldorf and Scott Wallin. Honorary pallbearers will be Beth Gibson and Justin and Colin Kreiter.
