James "Jim" W. Karl, 56, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at his home in Le Mars.

James William Karl was born March 4, 1953, in Le Mars, the son of Clemence and Betty (Collins) Karl. Jim attended Le Mars Community High School and later served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his medical discharge from the Marines, Jim returned to Le Mars.

Jim enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and drawing. He enjoyed going on vacations with his friends through the Plains Area Center. He also liked to go to movies and watch movies at home.

At a young age, Jim discovered he had a tremendous interest in history. In his younger days, Jim enjoyed going fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include two sisters, June Paik and her husband Dave and their children, Eric, Angela, and Jaime, and Joyce Karl, all of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Jeff Karl of Le Mars; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grand parents, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Pastor Jon Meredith of the First Baptist Church of Le Mars officiating. Visitation with the family present will be after 6 p.m. Friday followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241.

Pallbearers will be Larry Rolfes, Cris Collins, Gregg Collins, Eric Paik, Dave Paik, and Matthew Ryba.
