REMSEN, Iowa -- John R. Schnieders, 43, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Remsen, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
John was born Oct. 10, 1960, in Le Mars, the son of Robert and Helen (Hansen) Schnieders. He was raised in Remsen and attended special education classes in Kingsley, Iowa, until the age of 12. He then lived and received his education at Hope Haven School in Rock Valley, Iowa, until the age of 18. From 1978 to 1990, he lived and worked at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, Iowa. Since 1990, he had been living in Le Mars and was working at Life Skills Training Center there. He was awarded several medals from the Iowa Special Olympics.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Schnieders of Remsen; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Beth of Houston, Texas, and Ken and Sallie of Omaha; two sisters, Chris Schnieders of Monrovia, Calif., and Cathy Schnieders and her husband, Mark Fliecher, M.D. of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars.
