Ruby Marshall, 79, of Hawarden, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Hillcrest Heath Center in Hawarden.

Ruby Irene Diercksen was born June 9, 1929, west of Le Mars, the daughter of John and Laura (Peters) Diercksen. She graduated from Akron High School in the Class of 1947. Ruby worked at the bakery and the grain mill.

Ruby was united in marriage to Robert Marshall on April 27, 1952, in Hawarden. Together they farmed in southeast South Dakota until moving to Hawarden in 1954. Bob died July 27, 1998.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, active as a Sunday school teacher, member of the UMW and active in the Mary Magdalene Circle. Ruby was active in card clubs and craft clubs. She also enjoyed visiting and movies.

Ruby is survived by her sons: Jim (Leslie) Marshall of Brawley, Calif., Reed (Gail) Marshall of Hague, Va., and Bart (Lorraine) Marshall of Hawarden; daughter, Barb (Bob) Keehn of Hawarden; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Russell Marshall of Hawarden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; a brother in infancy, Marvin Diercksen; a daughter in infancy, Gloria Marshall; a grandson in infancy, Ian Marshall; and a great-grandson in infancy, Andrew Marshall.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at United Methodist Church, Hawarden. The Rev. Barb Joy will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery at rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden.
