Marlis Linstrand, 78, of Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Marlis Angela Siebens was born June 18, 1930, on the family farm north of Brunsville in Washington Township, the daughter of John and Helena (Rieken) Siebens. Marlis was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Brunsville. Marlis attended school in Brunsville and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School. She was united in marriage to Gordon Linstrand on July 16, 1953 at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Marlis and Gordon were blessed with three children: Tom, Diane, and Scott. As the children were young, she stayed home to be a mother and homemaker for her family. Later in life she worked for the Le Mars Community School District as a custodian from 1972 until her retirement in 1989. Gordon died May 4, 1984. Following his death Marlis continued to live on the farm before moving to Brunsville. In the mid 1990s she moved to Le Mars.

Marlis enjoyed family gatherings and especially cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as she called them her "little sweetie hearts."

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she enjoyed volunteering. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, and going to dances. In later years, Marlis enjoyed going on day trips with her friends.

She was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagle's Auxiliary for many years.

Survivors include her three children: Tom and Susan Linstrand of Le Mars, Diane Pike and her special friend Carl Puetz of rural Le Mars, and Scott and Peggy Linstrand of rural Le Mars; four grandchildren: Jamie and her husband Kevin Trometer of Le Mars and their children Brittany and Ashley, Jason Pike and his wife Darla of Orange City and their daughter Katlin, Tanya Bates and her husband Todd and their children Harlie and Brody, and Carrie Linstrand of Joliet, Ill.; a brother, Orval Siebens of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Howard Linstrand of Maple Lake, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Irene Siebens of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Marlis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gordon on May 4, 1984; a sister, Margaret Krogman; a brother John Siebens; a sister-in-law Barbara Siebens; and a brother-in-law and his wife Richie and Lynea Linstrand.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Brunsville, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitations with the family present will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer service Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Tom Linstrand, Scott Linstrand, Carl Puetz, Jason Pike, Kevin Trometer, and Todd Bates. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
