Reva H. Albright, 88, of Le Mars, died Sunday evening, Nov. 16, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars, where she had made her home since August 2007.
Reva Helen Albright, the daughter of Fred G. and Margaret A. (Renken) Dirks, was born Feb. 11, 1920, at rural Ireton. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ireton and attended rural Ireton country school.
On Nov. 4, 1940, in Onawa, Reva was united in marriage to Arthur C. Albright. They became the busy parents of two daughters, Barbara and Jo Ann.
Reva was employed by the Hinton Community Schools for 20 years as a cook, retiring in 1985. Her greatest priority and pride in life, was the joy she found in tenderly caring for her husband, her daughters and her home!
Reva's devotion to her faith was of great importance to her throughout her entire life. In her earlier years, she was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, then Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton and currently, Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Some of Reva's favorite hobbies and leisure activities included solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, visiting with her friends while joining them in making crafts, crocheting, especially heirloom afghans, sewing and altering clothing, baking, especially her homemade rolls and bread, fishing, hunting and vegetable gardening and canning.
Reva is described as a wonderful cook, who could basically make a meal out of nothing. She was a very giving and caring woman who possessed a passion for assisting anyone with anything at anytime. Reva delighted in keeping a meticulous and tidy home which displayed many of her homemade touches.
Reva was remarkable at giving her opinions, expressing herself, and sharing her knowledge. She also enjoyed receiving the like-wise from others.
Cherishing Reva's memory are her two daughters, Barbara and Bob Baldwin of Moville and Jo Ann and John Keir of Roeland Park, Kan.; her three sisters, Myrna Howard of Sioux City, Pearl (Albert) Eilers of Friendship, Wis., and Della (Scott) Busch of Longmont, Colo.; her brother, Carlyle (Ihlo) Dirks of Orange City and her sisters-in-law, Arlene Schulz of Le Mars and Neva Dirks of Gardnerville, Nev. Reva will also be dearly missed by her four grandchildren, Shaun (Todd) Lindhoff, Deane (Shannah) Baldwin, Allison (Michael) Gile and John C. (Michelle) Keir; her nine great-grandchildren, Christopher and Devin Lindhoff, Megan and Jack Baldwin, Joseph and Matthew Gile and Samuel, Evan and Zachary Keir, and numerous other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Reva in death were her husband, Arthur C. Albright; her parents, Fred and Margaret Dirks; her sister, Mildred Burleson, and her husband, Ed; her two brothers, Howard and Darrel Dirks and her brother-in-law, Vernon Howard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with Vicar Edward Durand, III officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Brunsville. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue at the Grace Lutheran Church on Thursday morning, one hour prior to Reva's service.
