LE MARS, Iowa -- Emma M. Schmidt, 82, of Le Mars died suddenly Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Emma Marie Frahm was born May 19, 1920, the daughter, of Henry C. and Meta (Doering) Frahm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1938. Following graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a secretary.

She was united in marriage to Donald Schmidt on May 29, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev. L.L. Belk. The couple made their home in Le Mars. She was the secretary at Clark Elementary School for many years.

She enjoyed caring for her family and cooking for them for family gatherings. She also enjoyed shopping and antiques. She loved caring for her cats.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Le Mars; three daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Richard Allen of Pickerington, Ohio, Margaret Schmidt of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Glenda Schmidt of Missouri Valley, Iowa; a brother, Herbert Frahm of Willow Grove, Pa.; a grandson and his wife, Brian and Kelly Allen of Sylvania, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Kevin Allen; two special family friends, Jack Anderson of Sioux Falls, and Ben Taylor of Des Moines; three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Meta Frahm; two sisters, Lucille Larson and Lydia Hamilton; and a brother in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Richard Allen, Gary Larson, Jack Anderson, Ben Taylor and Dan Clement.
