Larry J. Meis, 70, Le Mars, lifelong resident and businessman, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 1994, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Larry James Meis was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Le Mars, the son of Alphonse and Marcelinda (Alesch) Meis. He was raised and educated in the Le Mars area. He worked on the Alaskan Highway from 1940 to 1941. On Jan. 13, 1945, he married Dorothy Hart at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Upon returning to Le Mars, he worked in the family business, Meis Feed and Seed. He managed and operated the Remsen feed store and was later the manager of Good Morning Mills in Le Mars. In 1972, he established West Le Mars Feed and Grain, which later became Mooreman Mfg. He remained active in farming and other agricultural interests until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; six children, Betsy and Larry Austin of Goleta, Calif., Michael and Connie Meis of Naperville, Ill., Mary and Neil Eckhoff of Arvada, Colo., Mathew Meis of Goleta, Calif., Anne Knupfer of Memphis, Tenn., and Dr. Jeanne Meis-Kindblom and her husband, Larson Gunnar Kindblom of Chevy Chase, Md.; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mark and Phyllis Meis of Scottsdale, Ariz, Dick Meis of Le Mars, and Dave and Mary Meis of Le Mars; two sisters, Alene and Nick Scallon of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Ann and Jim Rawley of Littleton, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established in his name for St. Francis Indian Mission at Rosebud, S.D.
