Dolores M. Scott of Merrill died Monday Sept. 15, 2008, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars at the age of 85.
The former Dolores Mary Junker was born July 11, 1923, near Oyens in Remsen Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Reard) Junker. She grew up near Oyens and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1941. Prior to her marriage Dolores taught in a country school in Plymouth County for several years.
Dolores married Elzia "Scotty" Leo Scott on Jan. 15, 1947, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage the couple lived in Le Mars until 1956 when they moved to Merrill. Over the years she had been employed with Michaloskys Steak House in Merrill, the Merrill School lunch program and the Ben Franklin Store in Le Mars.
Dolores was a longtime member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary, Oleson-Halweg Post #125 in Merrill.
Dolores enjoyed sewing, cross stitching and quilting. Many of her quilts were donated to charitable organizations which they would raffle to raise money. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three children: Gary Scott of Merrill, Randy Scott and his wife Sandra of Sergeant Bluff, and Sherry Kruse and her husband Tim of Merrill; three grandchildren: Molli Jo Scott and Beau Scott, both of Sergeant Bluff, and T.J. Kruse of Merrill; and a great granddaughter Emma Jo Scott of Sergeant Bluff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elzia "Scotty" Scott; a granddaughter Lynnae Marie Kruse; and a brother Aloysius Junker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill with the Rev. Daniel Greving presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral at Assumption Church in Merrill Thursday morning.
